Last week I read an interesting blog entry on TheAge about whether chivalry is still valued as necessary in our so called modern era. Reading the first half of the post, I wondered how it could be published on the age. Making a point using Destiny's Child's lyrics is just lame - they were trying to make a hit, not an analytical report (I'm not saying that the lyrics are totally not true.. but.. yea, you know what I mean!?!).
In my personal opinion, chivalry is still highly necessary.. maybe not in a financial manner (i.e. men paying for cocktails) as I do believe that women have to be capable of being independent (i.e. women can afford their own cocktails.. although I don't mind getting some free drinks hehe), but in others. The reasons underlying are not of some song lyrics on the top 40 chart, but they are ones I came up with.. when I'm daydreaming in the office.. 's toilet.. hehehe..
Reason number 1 is of course because women are the ones who get pregnant. Swollen toes, funny way of walking, back ache, uncontrollable farting... and also the post-pregnancy things that follow. Men don't have to go through those stuff (not that women have to, but they are the ones with the capability i.e. womb.. hehehe).
Reason number 2 is g-strings and make-up. Do men have to worry about VPLs and black circles around their eyes? NO! I know that women have their choices too.. some might not mind the "who cares about visible panty lines" attitude, but it's a rough world out there and some of us can be very competitive. Thus as uncomfortable as they are.. I bet every female in the world has at least a pair of g-strings. It's pretty much the same with make up, too.
Reason number 3 is because.. I like it.. although not the extreme ones.. which examples I can't think of right now. I need to spend more time daydreaming.
Anyway, here's the link to the post: http://blogs.theage.com.au/samandthecity/archives/2006/07/chivalrous_men.html
So, to conclude: chivalrous men.. me likey!
