A story centered on 4 New Yorkers: a sexually unsatisfied married couple - she is a sex therapist who has never had an orgasm (irony irony), he is into bondage but too afraid to tell his wife; and a gay couple (Jamie and Jamie) - he is so positive about life and the other he is the complete opposite. With their own problems, they go to this club Shortbus where sexual liberation is highly promoted. People there live like in the sixties, but with less hope (Shortbus, 2006).
In between the scenes, a view of a city from above is shown as a methapor of the people's feelings. The movie has an artsy fartsy side, but it's still enjoyable. It's R rated, because it has scenes with: a room full with naked people in many sizes having sex, 3 naked men 1 singing Star Spangled Banner into the other's bum (work out their positions yourselves!), and the married couple having sex in many positions.
I believe you can always get something out of a movie; from a lesson to be learnt (I might be one of those people who get answers for some unanswerable questions in life from movies.. unanswerable is a subjective term) to simply a new word. Unfortunately for this movie, it's the latter for me.
Pre-orgasmic doesn't mean that someone's going to have an orgasm. It means that that someone has never had an orgasm.
